Residency Logbooks

The residency training logbook records the competencies you gain during your training. The unit training supervisor creates a logbook for each new resident in line with the training curriculum, and trainers record the competency levels you reach (Regulation art. 17/2-c).

Once a year

Six-month periods are counted from the date you started training. In universities, the institutional training supervisor is the dean or a trainer appointed by the dean (art. 8/2-a, art. 17/2).

What does the assessment cover?

The unit training supervisor gives a written, documented and reasoned assessment of your commitment to duty, your working, research and management skills, and your professional ethics (art. 17/2-ç).

If an assessment is negative

  • A resident who receives a negative assessment is warned in writing by the institutional training supervisor within 15 working days (art. 17/2-ç).

  • Two consecutive negative assessments are notified to the resident within 15 working days and reported to the General Directorate of Health Services for submission to the Board (art. 17/2-ç).

  • The Board then changes the programme and adds one year to the training period; a resident who again receives two consecutive negative assessments in the new programme is dismissed from residency (art. 16/4-c).

At the end of training

To sit the exit examination, the core curriculum part of your logbook must be approved by your unit training supervisor (art. 20/1). When you complete your training, you receive an approved copy of your logbook (art. 17/2-c).
